My experience at Saint John's was wonderful. I had a private room with a window and bath. The nurses would post their cell phones on the board where I could call them instead of pushing the button for a nurse. The food was wonderful and the whole experience was positive compared to the horrible experience I had at Berkley West also in Santa Monica. I had asked for a private room but as faith would turn out I had a semi-private room with no window and shared a bathroom with 4 patients. Because my roommate named Beverly is a 79-year-old white retired teacher and came to my rescue on Easter Sunday at 6am.
How would any woman age 82 feel if a young 30-year-old black man appeared at the foot of her bed stating "He is assigned to me". after I rang for a nurse. He said, "What do you want?" I said "I want a female nurse to change me". He said "There is no female nurse available". I said "I want a supervisor". He said "There is no Supervisor available as well and if you need your diaper changed, I have to do it".
I pointed my finger in his face and said YOU WILL NOT TOUCH ME:HE THEN SAID "IF YOU WANT YOUR DIAPER CHANGED I HAVE TO DO IT OR YOU CAN SIT IN A WET DIAPER".
One thing all my Viewers should know - if you need orthopedic surgery at a hospital whether you are a man or woman you will have to wear a diaper, because you cannot get out of bed to go to the bathroom except for a BM and they bring a portable toilet to your bed and wheel you into the bathroom and place you over the toilet to use,
I was yelling for a female nurse when my roommate came to my rescue and asked how she could help, and I told her she should go down the hall and try to find a female nurse. She did and found a nurse. I told the nurse about the black man who was dressed in black sweat pants and shirt with rhinestones on it - no medical uniform at all. She called the assistant assigned to my doctor and the 2 nurses who were assigned to me from the 11pm-7am shift for Easter. They came into my room at 6:30am the first time I ever saw them and changed me..
This is just one example of what I went through, but you get the picture - horrible.
